A Note of Gratitude & Growth – One Year In

A MESSAGE FROM HULA'S CEO

Dear Hula Community,

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a year since I stepped into the role of CEO at Hula. I want to start this first quarterly note with heartfelt thanks—to every member, partner, and teammate helping shape this community into something extraordinary.

This past year has been about listening deeply, experimenting boldly, and moving forward together. Many of you shared thoughtful feedback last fall—on what’s working and what could be better. We took it to heart. On May 1st, we launched Hula 2.0, shaped directly by your insights.

Here’s what’s changed thanks to you:

  • A simplified, all-inclusive membership model—plus a new referral program to help grow this community.
  • Smarter workspaces with better power access and stronger connectivity campus-wide.
  • A renewed focus on personalized hospitality and warm daily interactions.
  • A new food and beverage program across campus highlighting emerging entrepreneurs, local businesses, and healthy, affordable options.
  • Expanded wellness access with open community use of the fitness center, alongside personal training through Fortify Fitness.
  • Improved parking, guest protocols, secure bike storage and rentals, and shower amenities and lockers to support all modes of commuting—with pricing equity at the forefront.

Beyond those upgrades, there’s more to celebrate:

  • We joined a statewide network of innovation hubs via the Leahy Institute for Rural Innovation—deepening our impact across Vermont.
  • In March, we marked Hula’s 4th birthday with over 400 guests joining to co-work and connect—proof of the magnetic community we’ve built together.
  • Member-led programming has taken off, from lunch & learns to peer-powered panels and workshops—thank you for your leadership, it’s inspiring!
  • Membership is growing, and we’re just getting started.

Looking ahead, we’re focused on evolving Hula’s programs to stay dynamic, inclusive, and mission-driven. That includes:

  • Trialing new ways for community members to engage with one another.
  • Activating the common areas in Building 44 with more coworking furniture and shared work spaces.
  • Prioritizing networking and events that best serve your interests and ours, while also supporting the broader community.
  • Relaunching our perks program to better reflect your values and needs.
  • Debuting a beautiful new website—with leveled up functionality for everyone.
  • Supporting entrepreneurs with mentorship from our incredible member base.
  • And making space to play and recharge—think barefoot soccer, lakeside meditation, creemee breaks, group rides and running clubs, hoops at Lakeside playground, sunsets at the Surf Club or at Golden Hour, and so much more!

Personally, the most meaningful moments this year have been watching students move through our space—and stay. Whether through internships, partnerships, or events, together we’re showing young people that exciting, meaningful careers exist right here in Vermont. It’s a reminder of Hula’s broader role: building a connected, sustainable economy that supports innovation and opportunity for all.

Thank you for being part of this journey—whether you’ve just joined or have been with us from the start. Hula is what it is because of you.

And to the amazing team, thank you for the laughter, hustle, and joy you bring every day.

With deep gratitude and excitement for the year ahead,
